Share This very special tree is part of the Garden’s collection and a gift from the Friends. The Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis) is one of the oldest and rarest trees in the world. Discovered accidentally in Australia in 1994, this 90 million year old pine was alive during the time of the dinosaurs! Its foliage resembles fern fronds or giant yew leaves. In the spring of 2007, the Friends of the Garden acquired a young tree propagated from one of these ancient pines for the Montreal Botanical Garden. You’ll find this specimen in front of the Biodiversity Centre during the summer season. La Presse article Back to news Share
